Château du Pavillon is the historic heart of the Ponty family's estate, purchased by Victor Ponty in 1925 and still the wine that represents the family's roots in Fronsac. Now run by fifth-generation winemaker Hélène Ponty, the estate has been organically farmed since 2019, when Hélène took over from her father Michel and began the vineyard's conversion.
This 2019 bottle carries the Canon-Fronsac appellation, a small, historic zone on Bordeaux's right bank near Libourne, prized for producing rich, structured wines from clay and limestone soils. Made from 100% Merlot grown on a sandy vineyard at the base of a slope, the wine is aged gently in a mix of demi-muids and tanks to preserve the grape's natural roundness without over-oaking it. Expect ripe black fruit with a subtly spicy edge, a full, warm body, and soft, melted tannins carried by a thread of freshness.
The result is a wine the family considers its heart in a bottle, elegant and structured, built to be enjoyed young or aged for a few more years of depth.
