Domaine Thierry Drouin was established in 1981 in the village of Vergisson, in the Mâconnais, at the southern tip of Burgundy. The estate sits in the shadow of the Roche de Solutré, a dramatic limestone cliff that overlooks the vineyards. Thierry ran the domaine solo for over 40 vintages before handing it over to his son, Charles-Edouard, who now farms the family's holdings across several of the Mâconnais' best-known appellations.
This 2023 bottle carries the Mâcon-Villages appellation, drawn from plots in the northern and western part of the appellation chosen for their late-ripening fruit and high limestone content. It's 100% Chardonnay, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and fruit character rather than pushing toward richness or oak influence. Expect a bright yellow color with green highlights, a nose of flint and fresh white fruit, and a full-bodied, juicy palate with lively acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish that echoes the stony soils it's grown on.
The result is classic, value-driven white Burgundy: honest Mâconnais Chardonnay from a family that has spent over four decades farming these limestone slopes.
