Jean-Philippe Marchand comes from six generations of winegrowers, with the family's vineyards originally founded in Morey-Saint-Denis in 1813. In 1983 the family expanded by acquiring a historic property in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, an old 18th-century winehouse that now serves as the domaine's base. The estate's vineyards spread across the Côte de Nuits in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Gevrey-Chambertin, and are plowed and nourished with organic fertilizer to protect soil health and vine quality.
This 2023 bottle carries the Bourgogne appellation, the broadest regional designation in Burgundy, used for wines made outside the boundaries of a specific village or vineyard-level appellation. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it draws on the same winemaking philosophy the estate applies to its Premier and Grand Cru bottlings, just from more general vineyard sources. Expect a classic red Burgundy profile: bright red fruit, soft tannins, and the earthy, mineral-driven character the Côte de Nuits is known for.
The result is an accessible entry point into a family estate whose top wines reach all the way up to Grand Cru, without the Grand Cru price tag.
