Château Meyre is a historic estate in the commune of Avensan, in the heart of the Médoc, with vines cultivated on the property since the Middle Ages. For over 20 years the estate has been owned by the Hetrakul family, who converted the entire vineyard to organic farming in 2008 and earned Cru Bourgeois Supérieur status in 2020. The estate spans 18 hectares in Haut-Médoc plus 2 hectares in the neighboring Margaux terroir, benefiting from the gravel, sand, and clay soils typical of the Médoc's best sites.
This 2020 bottle carries the Margaux appellation, the southernmost and often most refined of the Médoc's communal appellations, known for perfumed, elegant wines built on limestone and gravel soils. Made from a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels with a portion of new wood. Expect deep ruby color, black fruit character, and the soft, silky tannins Margaux is known for, more refined than powerful.
The result is a genuinely small-production Margaux from a family-run, organically farmed estate, rare for the appellation at this scale.
