Domaine de Font-Sane has farmed in the heart of Gigondas since 1860, run today by Véronique Cunty-Peysson and her husband Bernard, with their son Romain handling the commercial side after a master's in international wine business. Alongside their celebrated Gigondas bottlings, the estate's 16 hectares also include parcels in the neighboring Ventoux appellation, farmed with the same sustainable approach, using organic compost to maintain healthy, living soil.
This 2023 bottle carries the Côtes du Ventoux appellation (now simply Ventoux), which sits in the shadow of Mont Ventoux and tends to produce lighter, fresher wines than the more powerful Gigondas just next door, largely due to higher elevation and cooler nights. Made from a Grenache and Syrah blend, it's vinified to highlight freshness and immediate drinkability rather than the depth and aging potential of the estate's Gigondas wines. Expect bright red fruit, a touch of garrigue spice, and soft, approachable tannins.
The result is a lighter, easygoing red from a serious Gigondas producer, a great everyday option that still reflects real estate quality.
