Domaine de la Ronze traces its roots back to 1850, when Françoise Troncy married Antoine Geoffray, beginning a winemaking lineage that their descendants carried forward for generations. The estate as it exists today was formally established by Claudius Lathuillière, starting from a modest first vintage of just 1,500 bottles before growing into the respected Beaujolais producer it is now. The domaine sits in the heart of Beaujolais, farming across the well-regarded crus of Régnié and Morgon, where the vineyards benefit from the region's characteristic granite and schist soils.
This 2024 bottling carries the Morgon appellation, one of the ten Beaujolais crus and the largest of them after Brouilly, known for producing wines with more structure and aging potential than most Beaujolais reds. It's made from 100% Gamay, the only grape permitted in the appellation, grown on Morgon's mineral-rich, iron-flecked soils that give the wine its depth. Expect a deep garnet color, aromas of dark cherry, violet, and kirsch, and a palate with more grip and weight than typical Beaujolais, built to soften and gain complexity with a few years in bottle.
The result is a serious, terroir-driven Morgon from a domaine with over 150 years of Beaujolais winemaking history behind it.
