The Ruhlmann-Schutz family, already well known for their Alsatian wines, acquired the Château Valmont estate in Peyriac-de-Mer in 2016, seeking to build a Corbières counterpart to their generous collection of Alsace whites. The 30-hectare property sits in the maritime Corbières, close to the Bages lagoons and sandwiched between garrigue scrubland and pine forest, with clay-limestone soils that force vine roots deep underground for extra concentration. The estate has been in organic conversion since its acquisition and holds HVE Level 3 certification, the highest tier of France's environmental standard.
Aventure is Château Valmont's flagship, most representative Corbières cuvée, built from the appellation's traditional blend of Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Carignan brings structure and depth, Syrah contributes black fruit and spice, Grenache adds roundness, and Mourvèdre lends complexity to the finished wine. Expect a deep crimson color with ruby highlights, a nose of ripe red and black fruit with garrigue herbs in the background, and a full, complex palate balanced by soft tannins.
The result is a textbook Corbières red: fruit-forward, terroir-driven, and a fitting Mediterranean complement to the family's long-established Alsatian roots.
