Wunsch et Mann's roots stretch back to 1793, when the Mann family began cultivating vines on the hillsides of Wettolsheim near Colmar; the estate as it exists today was formally founded in 1948 when Joseph Wunsch and Joseph Mann joined forces. Now led by the third and fourth generations of the family, the domaine farms roughly 20 hectares across Wettolsheim, Eguisheim, Colmar, and Wintzenheim, including parcels within the Steingrubler, Hengst, and Pfersigberg Grand Cru sites. The estate converted fully to organic farming in 2008, and its soils, a mosaic of granite, limestone, and clay, give its wines a wide range of aromatic character.
This 2024 Riesling, "Roi Clovis," is made entirely from Riesling, Alsace's most prestigious white grape and one capable of extraordinary precision and aging potential in the right terroir. It's also certified vegan, made without any animal-derived fining agents. Grown on the estate's varied granite and limestone soils, expect a wine with bright citrus and white stone fruit on the nose, a touch of the variety's classic petrol-like minerality as it develops, and the taut, dry, food-friendly acidity that makes Alsatian Riesling so distinctive.
The result is a precise, terroir-driven Riesling from a family estate with over two centuries of history on Wettolsheim's slopes.
